Beautiful colors are a starting point

You love the colors. They look beautiful together. But when you start knitting, the pattern seems to disappear – or the rose you wanted to see looks more like a collection of stripes.

What happened?

Sometimes, changing one color makes the difference. Sometimes, we need to change where we put it.

Choosing colors for stranded knitting involves more than finding shades we like beside each other.

We also need to consider how those colors interact stitch by stitch, against the background, and across the motif.

In this workshop, we’ll explore:

1
Why two colors can look lovely together but make a knitted motif difficult to see.

2
How light and dark help the pattern stand out.

3
How changing the placement of your colors can change the whole result.

4
How to take inspiration from nature and test whether those colors will work in your knitting.

We’ll also give you a little supporting theory, then put it into practice through examples – including combinations that didn’t turn out as Anne expected.

Hi. I'm Anne!

Norwegian knitting teacher, designer, and the founder of Anne’s Norwegian Knitting.

I love taking inspiration from the Norwegian landscape and bringing those colors into my knitting. But a beautiful collection of yarn doesn’t always behave quite as we imagined once we start knitting with it. I experiment, change things, and sometimes discover exactly what doesn’t work.

That’s part of what I want to share with you.

Through my courses and knitting community, I help English-speaking knitters understand Norwegian stranded knitting and make it their own. In this workshop, we’ll look closely at real examples so you can understand what’s happening with your colors – and what you can try next.

Come with your curiosity

You don’t need to arrive with the perfect palette. That’s what we’re here to explore.

Bring a few yarn colors to the Q&A if you’d like some feedback, we will be picking out a couple of you to look at your colors during the Q&A session on Wednesday. Or you can also simply watch, take notes, and use what you learn when choosing colors for your next project.

The workshop will last approximately one hour. We’ll meet again the following evening for a live Q&A, giving you time to consider your own colors and questions.

The workshop is free, you have access to the replays for a week.
