Setesdal Knitting – More Than a Pattern

A live session with Anne and Steph
Where we explore the history, structure, and meaning behind one of Norway’s most recognised sweaters

Save your seat!

There is something about these sweaters.

You see them in old photographs, in use, passed from one generation to the next – and they carry more than just stitches.

They carry decisions.
They carry tradition.
They carry a way of thinking about knitting that is easy to overlook today.

In this session, we are going to take a closer look.

What this is.

We are inviting you into a live Zoom session where we explore Setesdal knitting from the inside out.

Anne and Steph will guide you through the structure, the patterns, and the small details that shape the whole – and show you what sits beneath what you see on the surface.

This is part of the work we are doing this summer inside the Mountain Journey, where we are returning to traditional Norwegian designs and working with them in new ways.

"I’ve been reflecting lately on what I’ve learned in Anne’s Norwegian Knitting over the last year, and I’m over the moon that this growth, this comfort, and this rewarding feeling will continue.
Thank you so much, Anne and Steph."

What you’ll experience

DURING THE SESSION, YOU WILL:

  • See how traditional Setesdal sweaters were built and worn
  • Begin to recognise the structure behind the patterns
  • Understand the role of details like the lus and how they shape the whole
  • Explore how traditional elements can be carried forward into new designs.

And somewhere along the way, you may find yourself looking at knitting a little differently.

About this session

This is a live session – not a recording

We will talk through the material together, and there will be time for questions at the end.

Members from the Mountain Journey will also be present, so you will get a sense of how we work, how we think, and how knitting is approached inside that space.

Who this is for?

This session is for you if:
  • You enjoy knitting, but feel there is more to it than just following a pattern
  • You are curious about where things come from
  • You like understanding the “why” behind what you are making
  • You don’t need any prior experience with Setesdal knitting.

If this speaks to you, you are very welcome to join us.
