Agenda Overview
Thursday, Feb 25th: Welcome Party & Goodie Bag Opening + 1 surprise session
Friday, Feb 26th: You get to meet the amazing ladies behind the northern most yarn mill in the world – Stormdal Wool. Anne Fjeld is presenting a brand new pattern and inviting you into some really old knitting traditions. Of course there will be a yoga and stretching session for knitters and our popular Sit & Knit Sessions with all the extras is back.
Saturday, Feb 27th: Linnea Bang-Madsen is taking us on a journey into the world of skinnfell (sheep skin) printing, of course we will be doing some more yoga and stretching. We are also working on something super exciting for the afternoon sessions for Saturday as well as a Sit & Knit Session with folk tails, music and getting to know your fellow knitters
Sunday,Feb 28th: A full day, kicking off with yoga and stretching, a fascinating trip into the world of wood carving and its symbolism with Jeppe Nordmann Garly, an introduction to the old norse runes with Steph and a special session in the afternoon to be announced soon.
The retreat wraps up with Q&As, a Sit & Knit, the highly popular participant fashion show, and closing reflections with Anne.

Stormdal Ull
Stormdal Ull is the only spinning mill in Nord-Norge – the region encompassing Norway’s three northernmost counties – and, as far as they have been able to discover, possibly the northernmost spinning mill in the world. They create yarn from local wool sourced across Helgeland, from the coast to the high inland mountains.Their yarns and patterns are firmly rooted in the region’s cultural and natural history, reflected in the names of their yarns and the stories behind their designs. Throughout the year, they also offer courses in hand spinning, plant dyeing and traditional knitting techniques – some of which are even included on the Red List.

This was a fascinating virtual knitting retreat, unlike any other knitting retreat I've attended.
The retreat started off with learning about sheep farming and processing the wool into yarn in the gorgeous Norwegian mountains. We learned about the inspirations for the beautiful Norwegian stranded knitting patterns, the rich history behind the designs, including gorgeous blankets, sweaters and shawls designed by world renowned contemporary designers through many lectures and Q&A sessions

Stephenie Anderson
A creative fiber and textile artist with a strong background in knitting, quilting, and hand sewing of Viking Age textiles. A frequent exhibitor, teacher, and knitting pattern writer, she won a blue ribbon in knitting at the Minnesota State Fair. Steph was awarded the Viking Connection Grant and studied in Norway under Astri Byrd and Linnea Madsen. While there, she studied and recreated historically accurate Viking Age garments based on archaeological findings

Anne Fjeld
Anne is the visionary behind Anne’s Norwegian Knitting. A lifelong knitter, her creations have always emerged not from patterns, but from the vivid images in her mind. Eleven years ago, Anne transitioned from the corporate world to fully dedicate herself to the art of knitting. Since then, she has learned to write patterns for others, deepened her knowledge of design, and explored the traditions that shape her craft.
Her mission is to share the rich culture and history of Norwegian knitting – and of Norway itself – with the world, by building vibrant communities and creating modern colorwork designs inspired by traditional techniques. At the heart of her work lies a commitment to sustainability: honoring natural fibers, local traditions, and mindful making that values quality over quantity. Anne believes knitting is not just about stitches on a needle, but about heritage, creativity, and connection.

Grandma Jet’s Mitten began with an original mitten shared by Laura Jett, who joined us for the for the first time during the 2025 retreat. The mitten had been knitted by her Norwegian grandmother, and Steph has carefully recreated it as a pattern so that its story can continue.
On October 6, we will gather for a special live class and knit Grandma Jett’s Mitten using Gammel Selbu yarn from Selbu Spinneri. You will receive the pattern, an invitation to the live class and access to the replay.
Everyone who joins the 2027 Virtual Norwegian Knitting Retreat by September 27 will also receive four weeks of access to the community section of the Mountain. This gives you time to meet and knit alongside our members before and after the class. Please note that this bonus includes access to the Mountain community, but not its library of downloadable content.

Created to Belong Together
As part of the 2027 retreat, you will receive two new matching designs from Anne’s Norwegian Knitting: a hat and a pair of fingerless mittens.
Your goodie bag will include two skeins of yarn from Stormdal Ull – enough to knit your choice of either the hat or the fingerless mittens. Both designs are knitted on 3 mm / US 2.5 needles.
During the retreat, we will explore the history and meaning behind the motifs used in the designs. You will also receive tutorials for a beautiful traditional edging technique featured on both the hat and the fingerless mittens.
This technique is currently included on Norway’s Red List of endangered craft traditions. By sharing it with you and encouraging more knitters to use it, we hope to help keep this special part of our knitting heritage alive for future generations.
Our Post-Retreat Gathering
A couple of weeks after the retreat, you will be invited to join us again for a special post-retreat gathering.
Bring along whatever you knitted during the weekend – finished or unfinished – for a relaxed show and tell. We will look back on our retreat together, talk more about the designs and techniques, and give you the opportunity to reconnect with the people you met during the weekend.
